I got Two Sisters at one of the stalls in a Chinatown mall that sells 10 DVDs for 20 bucks on a whim.

I thought it was dull, but not terrible.

The movie that I judge all against is one of those ancient versions of Nosferatu (don't have it handy) which consists of a mind-piercingly boring carriage travel sequence for pretty much the duration of the film. Calling is a "sequence" might be a bit generous.

We're on the "Pre-Code Hollywood" collection from Universal, who owns the Paramount rights up to 1948. Don't get that, but whatev....

In Hot Saturday, young, small town bank clerk Ruth Brock (Nancy Carroll) gets reeled in by small-town millionaire--and social disturbance--Mr. Sheffield (Cary Grant). She gets set up by a jealous lover at her bank, who schemes to get her fired and blackballed by her family and the whole town. It works. In the end, she jumps in Mr. Sheffield's car and motors off for New York. Quite an indictment of small-town America, if there ever was one.

Next was Torch Singer with Claudette Colbert as an unwed mother who gives up her baby for adoption (whores take note), then changes her name and achieves superstardom as New York's most notorious torch singer and party girl, only to be convienently reunited with the baby daddy in the last two minutes of the film, changing her ways back to soulful mommy. Claudette Colbert is/was fucking hot.

Big movie was hmmm....The incredibles....we popped that in the other day

Great film. I hadn't seen it since it was in the theaters, but it still packs a punch. A little sad though.

Last night we watched "Merrily We Go to Hell." A story about my second favorite subject: drinking.

Frederic March plays a lush reporter who wins the affections of a wholesome heiress (Sylvia Sidney). They marry and he swears off booze until his play hits Broadway and is a huge hit. He starts fooling around with his floozy ex, so his wife responds by leading a flirty life of her own (with Cary Grant). Eventually, she tires of the life and moves back in with her rich family. When the reporter finds out his wife just gave birth, he rushes to her side, and in 30 seconds, everything is happy again. Decent "pre-production-code" film exploring controversial topics of the 1930s, like unwed mothers and flapper-girl-leftovers.

I watched a dvd of Panzer's mother having sex with a dog.
