I'm waiting for an extremely long render to finish so I dropped by to check out the latest.
Then I began wondering what other people are doing, or not doing, when they read and post to this forum.
I usually come here as a time killer while I run short tasks and renders on my main machine. Things that take 15 or 20 minutes where there really isn't enough time to go start something else.
Sometimes I read a chapter or two in a handy paperback, or follow up on email or phone calls, and sometimes I come here an invest a little of my life checking this place out for entertaining tidbits.
Sometimes I get so involved I'll spend an hour or more (I'm embarrassed to admit) perusing the board.
My entertainment threshold must have hit a new low.
Just curious, but what's behind your motivation to participate in this online community?

All I know is that I had to set my online status to invisible because I'd be late to meet friends and they'd check xpt to see if it was because I was online. It usually was.

Like Fatman, I'm obligated to check in to see what've missed. Unlike Fatman, I only do XPT on the weekends whilst drunk. Also, I feel obligated to throw pro-Democratic Party propaganda onto the boards...just doing my part to help the proletariat...

Either when waiting for files to download - damned NetLoad.in takes FOREVER - some files take HOURS.
Or as an outlet for anxiety during sports events like my Met game that is on at the moment.

Rendering is one or the last stage in digital content creation - photo editing, video editing, computer-generated imagery or CGI, sound editing.
All of the source material can be digitized where necessary, altered and processed.
The music you hear on a CD was rendered, possibly more than once and not necessarily as a whole, after it had been mastered.
Video material, photos and CGI are treated comparably.
CGI feature films nowadays take a vast amount of processing power to be rendered by huge rendering farms, as they are called.
It takes a lot of time because the effects have to be applied to be visible. This is done at very high resolutions, in effect needing much processing power.
Small pieces - a single character, for example - of such a feature might be renderable on a very fast workstation class or high-end PC.

I found the pictures on snuffx.com, home of the more bizarre side of humour on the internet.
They are entitled "santanajailmassacre" and part of a series depicting what prison can be like for some.
I chose them because they fitted what redundant poster pretty wrote quite well and omitted the rest. Should there be any interest in the full set to be posted - not necessarily in this thread -, make a comment below.

I try and check in at least once or twice a day, just to see if someone has been abusing their rights in AWOP. When I have time I check the other forum sections or at least General Porn Talk.

Five titles through post production in the last 3 weeks! Now I'm trying to catch up with exporting all the final edits back to tape. I only have one HDV deck so I'm limited to only one computer at a time (I have 3 for Editing, DVD Authoring, & Rendering workflow). 1 hour of footage takes 4 hours to render and record so I've been at it for two days with at least 2 more to go.  Could anyone tell. My recent increase in posting should have been a dead give-away. This place is currently my favorite waste of time.
