Quote:
Baldwin's world was a one of Jim Crow and accepted legal institutional racism. So that's a quote from a different time that no longer exists.
As of 2008 many blacks have become their own most enemies.
i would argue that institutional racism still exists. 50 cent is not something that was organically produced out of the black community because that's simply what they be like. (their "invented culture"
) it's what white record executives are willing to promote as "real." black self-hate (a favorite topic round here) is not a naturally occurring phenomenon, it's an effect of living in a society that, in effect, hates black people. i don't see how you pointing out the worst of the worst white racists ("A piece of shit white trash killed MLK") and distancing yourself from them accomplishses anything in this type of discussion. wow, you think some guy, who everyone thinks is evil, is evil. congratulations. (especially when your whole point is, "look, they do it, too!"- by the way, how many white leaders have been shot by black racists?) i'm talking about, like, ideology, which is a learned thing for all of us, including black people. that's truly dangerous.
nevertheless, this is a topic about people dissing their own races, and that was the point of the quote: white folks continued denial of culpability, helping to insure that the same circumstances that existed then still exist now, and will continue to exist.
i do appreciate, however, you not resorting to ugly stereotypes and name-calling to argue your point. i enjoy the irony of some of the folks on here decrying reverse-racism from darkies while at the same time using the most offensive language they can think of because, i guess, being a crude bigot has somehow been conflated on this board with being a rebel who just doesn't give a fuck.
