Unless she actually set up a not-for-profit charity, this sounds more like "gifts" than "donations".

Whether they send her cash or household items, I doubt the value of the "gifts" attained a level that would require them to be reported. In any case, since she apparently lost items in a fire, the reportable "gifts" would likely wash with any reportable loss.

The only trouble I could see is if people try using their "donation" as a charitable tax deduction. And, that isn't her problem.
