BI explained the context more than once. Not everything has to meet with your/my/others approval/understanding.
Personally I think it was a mistake to participate in Donkey's "petition" on any level. BI seems to have tried to steer a middle ground - which has its own problems and dangers.
The choice satisfies few if any, and each party is left to interpret your action as "half-empty/half-full". In this case, I think any impartial observer would see BI's signing as an anti-CXXX without context, especially since Donkey saw it as support of his position. And, I have no doubt that the porn whores who signed afterwards saw BI's name as an endorsement to sign.
But, I'm willing to accept BI's explanation.
But, I truly don't know how forgiving I would be if I were CXXX.
