This fear of yours is unfounded. Professional performers are tested every 30 days at least. Quite a few every 15 days.

STD infection rates in the industry are below 7% with the majority of those infections being chlamydia and gonorrhea (curable!).
Infection rates in the civilian population are over 14% and have increased by 11% in the last 5 years. Most of these cases being herpes, syphilis, hepatitis, and HIV (incurable!)

.6% of the US population is infected with HIV. In the entire documented history of porn, the HIV infection rate is less than .01%

Even the infection rate among escorts was lower then the general population!
Sex workers pay attention to sex because it's their job. For civilians it's recreation therefore not a perceived threat.
