The Panasonic Lumix GH1 has got photo hobbyists in a flutter because it's a damn fine SLR replacement as well as an excellent HD video camera. $1200 bucks is not a bad deal for a 1080p HD video camera with good glass. Surprisingly the cost in Akihabara is very similar to the cost from Amazon, plus no shipping or customs duty.

Plus, because this camera replaces both the SLR and a separate video camera, as well as being in the smaller Micro Four Thirds format, there is more room in the camera bag for dongs as well as a stash of coke.
