A couple of years back I saw a deal on cheaperthandirt for Portugese surplus 7.62x51. It was something like 10 cents a shot. This was pre-Afganistan. Prices have gone through the roof since then. Need the wars to end if for no other reason than cheap amo to flood the market. I know, I know, I am a self-centered prick only thinking about myself-- everyone loves a good war...

The M14 (the first pic) will serve you well. I have the Springfield Armory M1A, and love it. It easily shoots better than I can.

The FAL (2) and Galil (3), along w/ Stoner's rifle, are the prime candidates for the anti-AK.

If going old-school, a Remington 700, perhaps. Step back a generation to a springfield 03-- the 30-06 has the same ballistics, but longer catridge. The bolt action will kick twice as hard as the gas action of the M14. Something to think about.
