Never ate in Olive Garden in my life, real Italians spit and give the horns to that place. But Im sure you consider that a fancy restaurant with high prices.

If you live in a distant suburbia or a valued small town, Olive Garden would be considered upscale.

Bonus points if a Red Lobster was also available.

I have eaten in each only once. In the late 70s they opened a Red Lobster down the block from my house on LI so we tried it. Haven't been back. Often pass under the big red lobster on 41st and 7th, though. Tourists like to take pictures of the beastie.

Olive Garden ... was taken there my two friends in Lexington, KY in the early 90s. I had no idea it was a chain at the time. I had never heard of them.

It wasn't awful, but it wasn't what I knew as "pasta".

I thought it was to pasta what Pizza Hut is to pizza ... a variation of the original for the midwestern palate.
