I guess the lack of response from EA's press person means that the fund is going to be for EA first, and then if there is any money left <snicker>, it will go to others. I kind of feel OK with this because it was their idea, but then at the same time I keep wondering why Max wouldn't get his fair share of the fund?

Can someone explain how this fund is for the entire industry since there are 3-4 larger battles already raging, and at least 40 smaller ones. I guess that the mom and pop adult DVD store that has been open 20 years and that makes 1/100th of what John does a year should be excluded too. Aren't a lot of those guys your customers Evil Angel? Isn't any fight in porn worth fighting?

Next, I wonder why, if they are truly so caring for the creation of a porn legal fund, why they wouldn't put their millions into it?

Ahhh, but perhaps they are? Would it not make sense for John to "donate" hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time into this fund, creating a tax deductable shelter for his legal bills? It's brilliant really. Of course what would throw a monkey wrench in here is if someone like Max or one of these small video stores or strip clubs started trying to suck money out of it. All the tax benefits would disappear. That said, until this case is over, they need to either:

A) Make sure the fund only gives money to EA by putting a puppet on the fund distribution that would deny everyone but EA.

B) Put each companies money asside, and offer to allow Max, etc to use a private portion of the fund for his own tax deductable legal bills.

I see this more of a tax write off, lowering the total legal burden. So Max, if you are reading this, you should contact the fund administration and see about the possibility of donating money into the fund that would be "pre-approved" for use on your case. If you spend another $200k, this could be a pretty nice write off for you.

Say Darth...could you use your contacts as a porn industry insider to find out what happened to the fund (and money raised by it) that Seymour Butts did a webcast/telethon for on 'Family Business'? You know the episode...they had Belladonna, Flower Tucci, Nikki Nova, plus Uncle Stevie doing magic and the standup comedy stylings of Herschel Savage to boot.

I would have thought now would be just such a time for said fund...indeed, perhaps they could pool their resources with EA's fund and really sock it to the Government! Strangely, I haven't heard much about it recently, so that's why I am beseeching you for info.

In return, by way of thanks, I will listen to the podcast interview of your man-crush Jules Jordan over on ADT and count the number of times he says "Y'know", just for you!

Deal?

I thought I did respond adequately in the other thread.
I hadn't logged onto XPT in a few days because I was busy in Miami, and now I'm in Washington DC.

If you look at the donate page on the site, I haven't even put up a Paypal button yet. John didn't really want the fund. He doesn't want to ask ANYONE to donate to something that he takes full responsibility for. He's always saved a large portion of his money, and has always known that Evil Angel was never immune from the possibility of prosecution.

With the sheer number of phone calls and emails we were receiving, a decision had to be made to decide whether to tell people who were saying they really wanted to help, "Thanks, but no thanks" or to use the concept of the fund to turn this into something much bigger than just the idea of money.

DefendOurPorn can be a concept beyond just one case. It's a way to get people talking about First Amendment ideas on a much bigger scheme.

John told me that he's not planning on taking any money out of the fund for quite some time. He feels uncomfortable with the idea of other people contributing money, and before any further decisions are made, he wants to have some time to evaluate better how he feels about the situation.

I saw on Gene's site that there is a defense fund for Harb / Movies by Mail. Darth - can you be helpful and find that address for me? If not, I'll find it tomorrow when I get back to LA.

At one point, I had also heard that Extreme had a fund.
