NEW YORK — There's another side to Alicia Keys: conspiracy theorist. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter tells Blender magazine: "'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist." Keys, 27, said she's read several Black Panther autobiographies and wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck "to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead," according to an interview in the magazine's May issue, on newsstands Tuesday. Another of her theories: The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing." Keys' AK-47 jewelry came as a surprise to her mother, who is quoted as telling Blender: "She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia." Keys' publicist, Theola Borden, said Keys was on vacation and unavailable for comment. Though she's known for her romantic tunes, she told Blender that she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton "had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself," she said. The multiplatinum songstress behind the hits "Fallin"' and "No One" most recently had success with her latest CD, "As I Am," which sold millions.  SOURCE

Sorry, but I don't want Tupac or Biggie Smalls to be my leaders. Herbie Hancock or Charles Mingus ... now we're talking.
I respect Alicia Keys because she plays the piano alright, but she is falling into a trap that lighter-skinner blacks do from time to time. They feel guilty because of the better treatment their fairer skin affords them, and this leads some to overcompensate and assert their "blackness" in unproductive ways.

Her gangsta rap theory is the most idiotic comment i have heard about rap . This music was (and is) a way of life in cities .
Poverty and violence go hand in hand . Rappers expressed the true life living in the streets . Of course , when it became popular , all the record companies ate it up . And so did white folk 
But to say the government started it is down right stupid .
Eazy-e is a true gangsta . He took his money from the streets hustling and made a record company . Not because the government told him too  He was one of the first true pioneers of this sort of music . r.i.p. Eazy E .
It's ashame that many fans of hers will believe what she is saying . I will say she is pretty , has a nice voice , and writes nice songs , but she has no idea about government isuues or politics .
edit : And the pic Nugent posted of her , looks to me that she is acting ghetto by holding a gun . And the gun charm on her neck glorifies the way of life too . Tupac had it tattooed on his stomach . I gaurantee that she will be last person to ever use a gun in a situation . Yes the pic might be just from a photo shoot , but some people will take it as she is glorifying the way of life . In reality , she probably would'nt hang with , or even drive in crime ridden areas .
I wonder if she talked about "studio gangstas" in her comments . Now there's a bunch of phonys .

Eazy was a shitty rapper with no flow. Most of his shit was written by other members of NWA, hence his absolutely forgettable solo records. There's some good rap/hip-hop out there guys, you just have to wade through the commercialized-gimmick crap to find it. Jurassic 5, The Roots, Tonedeff, Aesop Rock, The Grouch, and Del are just a few.
There are types of music I don't really care for at all, however I think it's safe to say that I could find at least one artist/song from each genre that I can appreciate.
