William S. Burroughs used to have a very simple term for referring to people who take it upon themselves to mind other peoples' business . . . . he called them shits.

And that is really what they are.

It is one of the aspects of human nature that would make me embarrassed in the hypothetical situation in which I had to defend the human race to some alien race. It's one of the big things about us of which I'm ashamed.
