This always annoyed me, if they are going to do this than they ought to publish everyone who got convicted in their jurisdiction. I would rather know who the robbers and assualters were so I could avoid them.

I noticed most of them drive trucks.

Boy would I love to be the plaintiff's lawyer if any of these guys are found innocent, especially if any live out-of-state (notice they're only posting in-state so far).

They probably signed a ticket to waive a court hearing and took the option to pay a fine, but that's no excuse to publicly humiliate them as a so-called deterrant. It's not gonna stop prostitution, just maybe make some people think twice before they roll the dice & many more will still take their chances.

It's also a dumb thing to do because it's defamation if you post the wrong name, or the wrong picture, etc. Moreover, you can be sued anywhere. If someone stops to take a piss at the rest stop and you mistakenly tag him, and his boss sees his picture when he gets home, then he can sue in his home jurisdiction.

The Dallas police won't have to defend themselves at home in front of a local judge & jury - the case might be heard in Idaho, under local law there, with judges & juries that have no interest in supporting the Dallas PD.

(this is why I noted that everyone listed on the police site lived in Texas - they're probably covering themselves so that if they screw up the case will be heard in a friendly local court).

The postings are clearly defamatory. Truth is an absolute defense for these web sites. But if they make a mistake and get it wrong that defense is lost, and damages can be pretty high if someone loses a job over it.

I just have such a hard time fathoming how people can be so misguided and self-righteous.

Why is it anyone's business who has sex with who(adults) and/or if money changed hands.

And that is really what they are.

It is one of the aspects of human nature that would make me embarrassed in the hypothetical situation in which I had to defend the human race to some alien race. It's one of the big things about us of which I'm ashamed.
