No it does not. That's just a recent "theory" by some guys trying to sell books, etc., making "Millerites" out of the Mayans.

If that were true, they wouldn't have panicked every 52 years centuries ago.

BUT if 2012 is a year that the calendars intersect - it likely is, since why else would these authors choose it? - then the Mayan would believe that it COULD end in 2012.

I firmly believe they got the math wrong. That, and some internal quarrel/civil strife went horribly bad.

The ennd of the world/eschatologist bible thumpers and planet x believers seem to have latched on to 2012. I guess it's the new date for the Rapture to take place. I myself will be shopping for a new 7 Series BMW when the rapture occurs. I am sure there will be a few abandoned ones from which to choose.
