A LITTER of tiger cubs born recently at Colchester Zoo have been eaten by their mother, it has emerged.

The cubs were the first ones born at the zoo and the first for Anoushka, an Amur tiger, tiger and arrived at the beginning of last week.

Zookeepers left the mother alone in a specially built enclosure, so it is not known how many cubs were in the litter, but the average is between two and three.

Cameras placed inside the den to monitor their progress were no longer working after they were knocked by Anoushka.

Somewhere Beavis and Butthead are chortling.

maybe the cubs were still born or sick, usually that's the only time an animal will eat its newly born babies. That is very very sad.

More than likely she couldn't bear the thought of raising her kits in such surroundings and instead of bringing them into such a harsh world of captivity and exploitation she ate them.

This should be used as a precedent the next time a mother flushes her newborn down a walmart toilet.
