LOS ANGELES - Sasha Grey, AVN's 2008 Female Performer of the Year, has announced that she will open LA Factory Girls, an agency representing female adult industry performers, later this month.
Of her decision to launch her agency Grey said, "I thought it was time to start representing myself on my own. And I thought what better way than to start an agency. I want to build a foundation. There are a lot of performers in this business who represent themselves and don't have an agent, but it's kind of hard to find them. This agency can be a platform for representation and people will still know me and how to find me and book me."
Grey said she will be the agency's first model with others to come later.

As to the agency's name, Grey noted, "There's a Warhol reference and there's also a Factory Records reference. I can't help myself with my love for music and art. I started getting into it before I was 15."
In addition to the agency, Grey is scheduled to launch a new website as well. "I will be launching my website, hopefully, next week," said the starlet. "I wanted to get it up last Wednesday but that didn't happen."
Of the new site, Grey noted, "I'm doing the website all by myself, but I've hired a web designer to actually put everything together. But creatively and sexually, everything is coming from my perverted mind. I'm very excited about it. I've put a lot of hard work into it. It'll be at SashaGrey.com."
"It's definitely a multimedia site," Grey continued. "There's obviously going to be hardcore porn, but not all of the photos will be porn. Some of it will be fine art. Maybe some of it will be landscapes. And people can keep up with me, where I'm going to be, appearances, et cetera. It seems my friend Sasha Grey is starting her own talent agency. Although it really looks like she just wants to represent herself. Not sure as to any of the details, but I will say this. I disagree with her initial press release. Not once did she mention Spiegler's name or thank him at all. This is a girl who was booked months in advance, and Mark organized all of her shoots. Then when she had major medical problems, Mark not only kept the faith, but helped deflect any problems, and additionally got her back in the game when she was healed up. I realize that agents are there to make money, but Mark treated Sasha with kid gloves and A TON of special treatment (which is the correct way to treat a major superstar performer like Sasha). Not sure of any of the specifics, but I just wanted to throw that out there about the job Mark did.
Furthermore, lets talk about girls who don't have agents. It is almost impossible for a girl to represent herself effectively. The only one I can think of is Jenna Haze, but she is different because A. she doesn't need to work much because she is with Jules. and B. she makes so much per scene that 1-2 scenes a week is more than enough to live on. Here are the problems associated with not having an agent.
First, the big directors and producers in this business can easily find any girl they need whether they have an agent or not. Where the agents are very useful to performers is pulling in the new directors and small time companies. These new clients have no idea how to get ahold of a female performer, and rely on the agent to take care of that for them. The second problem is organizational. It's not easy to keep your month organized correctly (I have my Bachelor's Degree and find it hard to manage sometimes). Some people book you far in advance, some book you at the beginning of the week, and you have to keep track of them all. You have to carefully organize your bookings in your calendar and remember to get call times, shoot address, wardrobe, etc. Then you have to remember who has paid you and who hasn't. This is the third and largest problem I think. Keeping track of your checks. Agents have leverage to help deter people from not paying the performer or holding their payment for weeks or months. Single performers don't have that leverage. So you have to spend time running down missing checks instead of letting your agent take care of it. Overall, I think it's a really poor way to go unless you don't WANT to work very much. Then it's fine. I wish Sasha the best of luck, but it will be a long, hard road.
