From the few times I met David Patterson, I really liked him.

I once had a long conversation with him at "Tavern on the Green" during a New York County Democratic Committee fund-raiser [~1994]. Very, very sharp guy, but not really tough/mean enough for the scrum that is the NYS Legislature.
