"The NYPD is far more likely to stop and question black and Latino subway riders than white commuters - particularly in Manhattan, a Daily News investigation has found. Blacks and Hispanics make up 49% of subway riders, yet account for nearly 90% of the citizens stopped and questioned in the subways in the last two years. Whites make up 35.5% of subway ridership, yet they account for a mere 7.9% of the subway riders stopped in the last two years, records show. This racial disparity occurs across the city, particularly in NYPD Transit Districts that serve mostly white neighborhoods of Manhattan, including Wall Street, SoHo, Tribeca, the West Village, the upper West and East Sides, and midtown. Unlike in the rest of the city, the NYPD's practice of stopping subway riders grew dramatically through last year - even as the crime rate has plummeted. " Full Article

Maybe it's in the article I didn't read it but a telling statistic would be what percentage of the subway crimes are committed by blacks v latinos v whites? I bet you'd see those stats justify the extra attention.

Body glow
Unlike current security systems that use X-rays, the ThruVision system exploits terahertz rays, or T-rays.
This electromagnetic radiation is a form of low level energy emitted by all people and objects.
These are able to pass through clothing, paper, ceramics and wood but are blocked by metal and water.
The system works by collecting these waves and processing them to form an image which can reveal concealed objects.
"If I were to look at you in terahertz you would appear to glow like a light bulb and different objects glow less brightly or more brightly," said the firm's spokesperson.
"You see a silhouette of the form but you don't see surface anatomical effects."
In addition, the system does not involve any of the "harmful radiation associated with traditional X-ray security screening", according to the firm.
The company has made previous versions of the camera, but the T5000, as it is known, is the first that works both indoors and out.
The system exploits technology originally developed at the government owned Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in Oxfordshire.
"Astronomers use T-ray cameras that can see through dust and clouds in space, revealing what lies beyond," explained Dr Liz Towns-Andrews, of the Science and Technology Facilities Council which runs RAL.
Other terahertz systems, developed by companies such as TeraView, are used to probe the structure of pharmaceutical compounds.

Better withhold those comments until those stats are posted Tritone. I'm confident enough to speak without seeing them, and I'm also confident they won't bolster your argument.
Let's look at it this way: when your Grandma wanted to cook fried chicken and headed out into the barnyard to kill one, did she pick up the pig, the cow, the geese, the lambs and the goat all to check for feathers?
Hell no- she marched right over to the chicken and chopped it's damn head off.

B, I'm sure the fact that there are more black men in prison than in college ( stat) is the fault of over zealous patrolmen, and not a genetic and societal predisposition to steal Other People's Property.

I tend to think its ecomonic. This also would explain why few whites would be petty criminals in NYC as Bornyo infers. There just aren't that many poor whites. No Trailer Parks = No White Trash

Try WWW.USDOJ.GOV. It's definitely NOT included in COMPSTAT.
Try searching for "statistics" or "studies" or "reports." I'd look it up myself but I'm beat after a long day.
Tritone: it may interest you to know that more minority officers than white ones consider racial profiling an acceptable tool in police work. Mostly because the minority officers have come out of the shitty crime-ridden neighborhoods and know exactly who is committing the crimes. Just sayin'

It seems no one. I think less than 2% of those frisked were Asian.
Most of the crime in Chinatown is asian mob related and asian-on-asian at that. This way they stay under the cops radar. So while no one is harassing the Asians, no one really cares what happens to them either.
I think the triads go by Honda and motorcycle and avoid the subways!

Crime has dropped yet cops are still harassing Blacks and Latinos. So it's pretty obvious that not only are the cops ignorant of the crime rate reality, but they're also wasting finite police resources needlessly harassing citizens.

You didn't address the point but that's okay.
Some people, even cops, just want to stamp out that last little bit of nastiness whether its soap scum or subway crime.
