By many accounts he was the Godfather of Glam Music. First one to wear top hats and feather boas on stage as well as putting drops of glitter on each of his cheekbones.

At one point his records accounted for about 6 percent of total British domestic record sales. His band was reportedly selling 100,000 records a day.

He never drove a car or learned to drive, fearing a premature death exactly as happened. He died as a passenger in a car at the age of 29 in 1977.
