Absolutely, it has value, but I'm no collectibles expert, so I can't give you a figure. If it was sent to a member of the Yankees "family," it would have even more value.

I've inherited a baseball autographed by the 1951 Yankees during Spring Training of that year. I figure I'll keep it stashed away for a rainy day. No, I'm not going to let you hold it.

It was sent to my grandfather. I have the card in my possession. He was related to the Yankee family by marriage, I guess you'd say. But he wasn't a Yankee player, manager, admin, or anything.
It's not like Granddad was keeping it to sell on a rainy day- I came across a stack of cards like this from when he got ill late in his life. The Yanks were mixed in with cards from his priest and widows in the community.
I guess I'll hang on to this one. The others may get tossed.

And HOW do you know Billy signed it while he was still manager of the team?

And I thought the posting would've lead to a litany of how much Yankee Fans suck...
My contribution would've been...
Quite a lot...

I am a big collector of Sports Memorabilia.
The key autograph you have is the Billy Martin, as it was signed while we was the manager of the team. While this item is very unique I am sure it worth much more to you than if you were to sell it.
If you did elect to sell it, you could probably get somewhere between $150-200.
Thanks Dan. All I was looking for was a ballpark value. I see I shouldn't throw it away.

Whoa! You could a helluva lot more than $150-200.... that card's got historic autographs from a fuckload of Yankee greats; re: Scooter, Yogi, Guidry, Lou, Billy Martin, Willie Randolph, Winfield, etc...It's priceless, but it'd prolly fetch a pretty penny on ebay.

Rizzuto, Winfield, and Berra are all in the Hall of Fame, Martin is not. I think the only way Martin's signature would be the most valuable would be on a blood alcohol test.

I loved Dave Winfield as a kid and collected his cards. I went through a phase of writing to some of the players I liked, and sent a card along to see if they'd sign it and send it back. All of the cards got returned, but they were rarely signed, and they'd usually come with a form letter essentially saying, "thanks for writing, but I'm too busy to sign this". Winfield signed it though...no letter, but it still kicked ass.

Another thing that may add value to the card is that, judging by the position of his sig, it appears that Scooter himself instigated and organized the matter. He was, and is, beloved by Yankee fans.

I dunno. I think Steve Kemp's signature lessens it's value. All you would need is Ed Whitson's and it would have no value at all.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/1983.shtmlLook at the signatures, they were with the Yankees organization in 1983, and Martin was the manager. Billy Martin's autograph is by far the most valuable on that, if you doubt me check prices for all the other players on ebay.com then check the price for his.

The first one is from Spring Training 1983, due to the presence of Roy Smalley and Steve Kemp (both of whom were gone from the team by mid-season 1983) Billy Marting managed the oakland As during the 1982 season then quit/was fired/was asked to leave after blowing out the A's Pitching rotation during said 1982 season (the same rotation he used to lead the A's to the playoffs in the previous 1981 season.) 1982 was also the year Rickey Henderson set the single season Stolen base record while under Martin.
Bornyo needs to provide more info about the card in general, beyond the copy he has posted. If it were just a plain piece of papaer/cardboard with all those signatures, if you get it authenticated (a must if you want to get top dollar for it) It is worth a minimum of 400 bucks primarily due to Martin's signature. Why his autograph is worth so much more is simply the predilection of collectors and memoribilia freaks who buy this stuff, plus the fact that billy martin is dead and thus a rarer signature all around (like any commodity, his autograph will obviously no longer be available so the SUPPLY of it is now fixed and dwindling...everyone else is still alive)

As far as providing more information- it's a get well greeting card I opened up and laid flat on my scanner. It's um, cardstock.
The other side (front) has pictures of kittens "hanging in there" or something similar. As has been suggested, the card was initiated and sent by Scooter to my Grandad. What else do you need to know? His address?

Burg, I'm posting this because I love you like a brother. Do you realize that your innocent post might be misconstrued as an attempt to demonstrate that the illustrious JimB is "once again, talking out of (his) ass"?
Didn't you read where he said: Quote:
And HOW do you know Billy signed it while he was still manager of the team?
Once again, Dan, you're talking out your ass.
Don't you appreciate that by pointing out that he's a fool he might marshall the resources of all of his alt-IDs and vote down your number of stars?
He lives in New York you know. He's almost a lawyer too. Aren't you afraid of all of his pretend knowledge?
If I were you, I'd keep a low profile for a couple of days. Just sayin'... Wouldn't want to see your empty chair cloating in the Hudson river.
I am not trying to make anyone look like an ass, I was actually trying sincerely to help the old grumpy bastard out, because I think of him as a brother. I think of a lot of people here like brothers (or sisters)....
I dont talk about it much for MANY reasons, but I have a fairly extensive collection/quasi business in sports memoribilia, collectibles and antiques. In fact, I paid a fair chunk of my Harvard bill back in the day with buying and selling of baseball cards, when baseball cards outperformed stocks as an investment option.
I am also a die-hard yankee fan and general baseball wonk. I know all kinds of useless (and useful) shit.
Bottom line Bornyo, if you dont want to do research on e-bay yourself to see what other people are getting for similar shit, just put the things up with a minimum bid of what YOU WANT to get for them and see what happens. If they didnt cost you anything in the first place, you have already won.

Godalmighty. A simple thread about my poor deceased Granddad has gone up in flames!
Thanks for the info Burg- you are spot on with your dating. I'm not going to sell the thing I just posted because I had no idea if it was worth saving or could be tossed. I didn't bother with ebay because I knew there are a shitload of Yankee fans here based on old threads. I hadn't considered you were a Harvard Degree'd memorabilia expert. I'm content to believe it's worth about 450.00.
Thanks to all for your information. Hopefully the hijack can now end as well as this thread.

Dear Malice, Please make all the bad men stop saying mean things about me. Words hurt. I would have wet my bed last night, if I hadn't passed out in the hallway from the drink. I can't defend myself, and my multiple IDs sticking up for me is no longer doing the job. I know it's against the board rules, but if I can't use multiple IDs, how can I try to manipulate things to my advantage? I can't handle the pressure - It's just like the pressure I had in law school, except that I never went to law school. Please please help - you're my last resort. yours in pathos, JimB, RaoulD, DuffG, and countless others. Back to your cubicle, bitch.

Let's make one thing perfectly clear, Gunga Din: I asked Malice to delete my real name from your posts, which was a cheap, desperate shot even for you, and was obviously done at your master Maxi's behest. He was warned about that repeatedly, so he recruited you to do his dirty work. I SPECIFICALLY told Malice that I did NOT want you banned or boxed, because, frankly, I'm having too good a time carving you a new asshole at each step.YOU, on the other hand, went whining, bitching and moaning to Malice trying to get me banned over The Chronicle and Duff Gordon, an alt I created more to protect my cohorts "Jack" and :Inkyo" than myself. Hell, Grizz, I made NO effort to hide who I was whatsoever and actually outed myself to Jeff via PM. You were just soooooo BUTTHURT over a little ribbing that you went crying to teacher about it. Big difference between the two.Pussy.

Tell us again how you log in under multiple IDs so you can vote peoples' stars up and down and vote your own threads up.
Why anyone would go through the trouble to do that is quite bizarre. You care far too much about how popular you appear to be on an anonymous (well, except for you sweetie) porn board. Get help. You need it.
Perhaps Ryan Knox could offer his services as a life coach.
Now get back to your cubicle, bitch.
Ps - maybe a porn message board wasn't the best spot to brag about your job after all.

We've gone from bacon water and corn chip hate to real, genuine hatred here.
It's time to take a deep breath, and refocus this hatred on people deserving of it- namely those defenseless and unwitting people who don't have the ability or the means to go toe to toe in a post-war.

Waterboy, for you to complain about a minor infraction of the "rules" while blatantly posting another XPTer's name is prima facie absurd. It's time for you to take a good long look in the mirror and face the fact that you're a BUTTHURT little pussy who stalks whores on escort sites and who's never said or done anything funny except for that tired avatar. You can't handle someone taking the piss at your expense so you try to get them banned. That's SO weak, dude. Go crawl back to Maxi and maybe he'll give you the comfort you long for.

You're absolutely right. There's no place for posting someone's name, social security number, occupation, etc. It's a complete outrage that anyone would do that. Talking out of both sides of your ass now I especially like the "If I was still a prosecutor" part. Now get back to your cubicle - your boss might need you to pick up some dry cleaning.

Thanks, "Crammy," you just made my point for me...
Tell me, Oh Hairy Homo, How come my "Army of Alts" has NEVER risen to my defense when turdburglars like you attack??? I suppose that next you'll accuse me of being Conky, VOD, Loop, Handful, DanG, Ivorenginedriver, Ranathan & anyone else who's said a kind word to or about me.
I suppose I must also be Jeffy, since nobody else would have ever given The Chronicle the Gad Daddy Impramatur, right?
Tard.
Sorry to disappoint you, G, but the only one around here who's been having a meltdown is you. You've been having one for Three Weeks now, and, quite frankly, I think it's time you went to see Fatty's Shrink. You can't stay butthurt forever, you know.
Bottom Line Gunga Din: If you're so broken up over some harmless satire, you're clearly unable to play with the big boys at XPT. I really DO think ADT would be more to your speed. Say Hi to Schutzstaffel Steph for me.

Regardless.. I'm pissed at the old lady and ready to offer up her new Louis Vuitton. Jim, I'm in Albany tomorrow. Amtrak could place it in your grasp by say 3-ish.
Bidding starts at a case of Grey Goose.. Do I hear a bottle of 151?
Soop, I may have placed you at a technological disadvantage but proximity and greed rule in this instance and I apologize in advance. Fight the good fight young man.

ENOUGH! Taylor Rain is pregnant, and we don't yet know what species or color the child is yet. Or if the birth scene will be worthy of Alien. Kurt Lockwood is on the verge of doing a 65 anal cream pie as soon as contract details are finalized with Robert Hill (he's holding out for rights to shoot under Joey Silvera on the side). .. and yet some are ignoring these momentous issues, choosing instead to strut their manliness on a porn board in a thread about baseball card signature values. More porn, less catfights that don't involve females.

Ok, I'm no expert, but this signature of Billy Martin looks very girlish. You notice the dots above the i's are little circles? Either it's not his signature or he was a bit
Those are little baseballs. If you magnify it you can see where he drew the threads. All the major leaguers used to do those.

Thanks Bornyo! Baseball isn't a big thing over here, hence my lack of knowledge in this field.

Billyball!

"In Oakland, a Record Blast-Off
Monday, May. 04, 1981 By B.J. PHILLIPS
"Billyball" is winning games and drawing fans for the A's
When Billy Martin's Oakland A's climbed from last place in 1979 to second in the American League West last year, critics insisted that Martin's magic could not last. He was, after all, using mirrors— often platooning eight mediocre players, for instance—to create the illusion of an infield. Certainly Oakland's starting pitchers were impressive, setting a modern record by completing 94 games in 1980. But, it was argued, the strong arms would weaken with overwork. In any event, the league was wise to the wiles of Billyball, as Martin's harumscarum tactics became known. Surely no catcher would fall for the double steal in 1981 after being burned so often last year, and of course pitchers were now alert for the attempted steal of home, the hit-and-run, the ubiquitous bunt and other hallmarks.
With the new season just 2½ weeks old, the A's have delivered an emphatic answer to the hot-stove skeptics: the longest season-opening streak in modern baseball history. Oakland won its first eleven games, breaking the ten-game record held by three teams. Throughout that remarkable span, the A's starting pitchers completed all but one game and compiled a miserly 1.27 earned run average. At week's end Oakland had won 15 of 16 games, opening a full ten-game lead over the defending champion Kansas City Royals."
