(CNN) -- At least two people have been shot and several injured shortly before 4 p.m. CT at Northern Illinois University outside Chicago, CNN affiliates are reporting. The gunman who opened fire in Cole Hall, a lecture building, is dead according to DeKalb police, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. According to the Chicago Tribune, the DeKalb County coroner's office said no fatalities had been immediately reported. A local hospital tells CNN affiliate CLTV that it expects to receive 15 patients and have so far treated at least two. CLTV reports that Kishwaukee Medical Center in DeKalb is currently treating six people with head wounds. A woman named Corrine described the scene to CLTV, saying she was "carried out" of Cole Hall by a "wave" of students running for their lives. "When one of the kids said, 'This guy is shooting!' I just ran to the next building as fast as I could and hid in an empty classroom." Officers responded to a call of shots fired on campus around 3 p.m., DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott told the Tribune. A professor at the school said there was a person with a gun in Cole Hall, a large lecture hall in Watson Hall. Scott said it was possible the assailant may have taken his own life. The University has ordered its student body to seek shelter and canceled classes Thursday. "Its has been confirmed that there has been a shooting on campus and several people have been taken away by ambulance," the school said in a posting on its DeKalb campus Web site. "All classes are canceled on the DeKalb campus. People are urged not to come to campus." A law enforcement official being briefed on the situation tells CNN that the shooter used at least a shotgun. The official declined to be identified further because the incident was still developing. An ATF spokesman tells CNN some of its agents are already on the scene-- strictly in an assistance role. He says one of the things ATF agents would do is help trace the weapon or weapons used. An FBI spokesman says several of that agency's agents were also en route to the scene to assist. DeKalb is 65 miles west of downtown Chicago and 45 minutes southeast of Rockford.  SOURCE

I left that school and town with my degree in 1997.....although I have only returned a handful of times I still have fond memories of that place......
It is weird you hear and see the images of these school shootings never thinking one day it may hit home.....Even though I work in a public high school currently.......
but this one was different.....not only was it my school....to see the pictures of students and police and the aftermath happening against the backdrop of places i walked everyday.......let alone to have had 3 classes my freshman year in Cole Hall where the shootings took place....That hurt was not only painful but just a very surreal experience all around.....

Sorry free, my bad. I attributed a quote to you that actually came from Lou. With my rapidly growing fan base it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the love coming my way.
As far as my responses go, I try to keep things tit for tat. Once someone degenerates to name calling I figure that's the only form of communication that they understand. I just try to be a little less pedestrian and a little more creative with my retorts.
And yes, when the debate strays from the topic (as it has in this thread thanks to Lou) and degenerates into personal attacks, the statements made ARE meaningless and inane.
As far as my job functions when I work on Skeet's sets, I'm like everyone else; wearing several "hats" at once. I do photo stills and second camera, AD and PA, and sometimes the lighting.
I also do a lot of his post production but that is not an on-set job function.
In my capacity as PA (errand boy in your nomenclature) I was responsible for oiling up every square inch of the girls we shot that day. I know, it's a lousy job but someone has to do it.
AND (to keep it on topic), how about those school shootings, huh?

School shootings are lame in my opnion. It does make me wonder how someone can still be an NRA member and talk about 'the Right to bear arms', when things like this happen on a very regular basis. It´s one of the very few things I dislike about American society.

School shootings are lame in my opnion. It does make me wonder how someone can still be an NRA member and talk about 'the Right to bear arms', when things like this happen on a very regular basis. It´s one of the very few things I dislike about American society.
In my defense, this is a very emotional issue and not always subject to logical responses. So, yes, my posting was visceral and lacking in originality.
As a gun owner and supporter of the Second Amendment, I find the criminal use of firearms reprehensible.
I am not, however, a believer in the concept that if one person fucks something up then everyone should suffer for it. After all, there are very few things in this world that cannot be mis-used. We would soon be outlawing, banning, and prohibiting just about everything if this concept was applied across the board.
Personally, I prefer the individual approach, where the person who uses a firearm in a criminal endeavor is removed from society permanently. You don't see MADD advocating the banning of all automobiles to stop drunk drivers (which would work wonderfully), you see them pressing for harsher sentences for those who abuse the privilege.
The only absolutely guaranteed cure for violent felons that I am aware of is the rapid injection of approximately 55 grains of lead directly onto the brain. Preferable with a Glock or a SigSauer.
That said, avoiding suicidal cowards who feel the need to take innocents lives with them when they go would not be any easier in a world sans guns, given the ease of making explosives or poisons from off the shelf supplies at your local Home Depot.
Of the thousands of firearms related deaths reported by the Justice Department every year, a large number of them are justifiable homicides: LE in the line of duty and citizens protecting themselves and their families. Another significant portion are gang, or felon on felon, crime and I just can't seem to get all teary eyed over those "losses". Suicides, crimes of passion, and accidents make up most of the rest.
This leaves a very small percentage left over that are the true random acts of gun violence that seem to get the lead on every major news outlet, giving the impression that they happen more frequently than reality dictates.
I would be dead myself if not for the tool perfected by Colonel Colt. I have used firearms to protect myself and others on at least half a dozen occasions. Twice, I have shot at people who have shot at me first. My hands shake just thinking about it and it is not a situation that I would wish on anyone.
But like all Rights, there have to be reasonable limits. Your right to Free Speech does not give you the right to to create panic, incite a riot, or threaten bodily harm to another. The right to bear arms needs reasonable restrictions as well. It is ludicrous that someone under medication for continuing mental health issues was able to legally obtain firearms. That, in and of itself, is a crime that needs rectifying.
