One hundred dollars says Obama loses in November. You on? I'll wait until you check and see if your wretched, alley-dwelling alki ass can scrounge up that kind of scratch.
BTW: As for paying attention to reality, which candidate was it who broke all spending records in Pennsylvania history, was on TV 24/7 and still got mugged by 10 points?
Crow all you want about Jughead winning in a contest with a majority black electorate. The fact remains that he cannot win in Oio, Pennsylvania and Florida, and without those states, he's toast.

I don't like McCain either, Fatty, but I'm certainly not going to vote for a wet-behind-the-jug-ears Pollyanna who thinks it's wrong to let Iran know that if they nuke Israel (or any of our allies) that we will obliterate them. Seriously, what world is this guy living in that he fails to grasp that the mullahs look upon diplomatic efforts as weakness. He's Jimmy Carter with a really deep tan, right down to the Dumbo ears and goofy, toothy grin. I may end up casting a write-in ballot. I did that for Rudy-Dinkins II, when I couldn't bring myself to vote for either of them.

Agreed. If Clinton was the opportunist people claim she is, she'd bow out now "for the good of the party," sit back and watch Jughead go down in flames, then spend three years savoring McCain's discomfort trying to clean up GWB's various messes, until the fourth year, when the Richardsons and the other fair weather friends come courting her. That's if she was smart, mind you. Somehow, I don't see her doing it.
But, back to your other point: Obama can register all the new voters in Florida he likes and it won't make a bit of difference. We've all seen that state's history of using subterfuge and legerdemain to disenfranchise Blacks. And I don't think the current Supreme Court will be any more sympathetic that the one in 2000.
Even if he does manage to pull off Florida, he still needs Ohio and Pennsylvania, and the numbers simply aren't there for him. This election is going to be as one-sided as the Six-Day War, and it's going to leave Obama just as bloodied as the arabs he thinks can be reasoned with.

Sorry, Paddy. This is a private bet with Li'l eblab. See, unlike Gunker, Malice, and even Grizz, whose opinions on the subject I respect because they come by them honestly, eblab is just a cheerleader who likes to shake his pom-poms at whomever he thinks is winning a particular argument. I'd like, for once, to see him have the courage of his convictions and put his money where his mouth is.
Of course, it's been almost six hours and he's avoided the challenge like PowDarth, so I'm not sure if it's going to happen. Maybe he's still out trying to scrounge up a measly C-Note from his skid row buddies?

I'm hurt but I understand Jim;but I'm a fucking degenerate gambler. You are a politically savvy guy and I may be just pissing in the wind with Obama, but I would take action on ANY bet....

Next one, buddy. Truth is, I'm NOT at all happy with the notion of a McCain Presidency. But with 25% of Clinton voters in Ohio and PA saying they'll stay home if Obama wins, and another 17% saying they'll vote for McCain, there's no way he can overcome the deficit. And those numbers do not take into account the Bradley effect.

Personally, after 20 years of Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, and Bush, I really don't want to see another Clinton in office. Isn't it about time someone else had a shot at the dynasty?
McCain scares me. Yeah he's a war hero, but tell me spending 5 and a half years as a POW of the Viet Cong doesn't fuck up your head. Now give the nuclear button to this old man with nothing left to lose. Fuck no!
At least Obama hasn't been in politics long enough to owe too many people favors. I'm voting for the amateur.

Because, unlike you, we actually have something of substance to add to the conversation. As do Gunker and the others who have taken the Pro-Obama position. All you do is stick out your tongue like a three-year-old girl and say "u r teh stoooopid," then add a bunch of meaningless graemlins because you're too inarticulate to express a grown-up opinion.
If you insist on using the name "elaborator," please start umm... elaborating on the subject. ANY subject. And NOT, for the love of God, with a fucking YouTube clip. Thanks.

The biggest concern I have with Obama is that he has never had a position of policy responsibility at any level - he's never had to *do* anything, just talk about it. I see no reason he can't, but I'm not sure the Presidency is the right place for someone that green. There's no way to decide my vote based on how he'll handle surprises or emergencies because he's never faced them anywhere. I'd prefer to see him as a Cabinet Secretary or something for a couple of years and then run for President.
How true. But, if his handling of the Wright/Ayers episodes is any indication, he'll likely try to paper it over with pablum and platitudes. As for experience, as I've said repeatedly, in a dozen years, both he and the country might be ready for an Obama Presidency. But not now.
Quote:
But Kennedy knows he has a blank check and he will not be shy in using it.
And this goes to experience. A savvy politician would have danced with the man for some time before accepting the proposal. My prediction: Big Digs II, III, IV and V.
Quote:
My concern with McCain is that he's awfully comfortable with pork-barrel politics and lobbying money, and he was in the thick of the S&L scandal a generation ago. Is this the guy to really change things in Washington?
It is cause for concern, but his subsequent actions (like the well-intentioned but fatally flawed McCain-Feingold bill) seem to indicate that he's learned from the past. Like Fatty, I'm far more concerned about his relationship with Rudy.
Quote:
I take the contrarian view that her attacks on Obama are good experience for him so that he's not totally unprepared when he faces the Republicans in the general election.
I took the same view during Gore-Bradley 2000, and I worked on Gore's campaigns in NH and NY. While it did have some benefit, ultimately, they were both making their cases to Democrats. What he, Obama or any Democratic candidate needs is to learn how to make their case to the undecided voter. And, if PA and Ohio are any indication, he hasn't learned that lesson yet. Based on his record with Wright, Ayers and the "bitter" comments, I'm not sure if he will by November.
Quote:
The difference is some belief in what is said. I don't think he buys a word of his unity bullshit and that his belief system lies closer to his reverends than to anyone else.
I think that, at core, he's an ivy-league educated snake-oil salesman selling hope to a disparate group of disillusioned people. He's going to end up disappointing millions, whether he loses to McCain or wins and becomes the next Jimmy Carter.

Project much?
Once, JUST ONCE, I'd like to see you actually articulate a position. You never have and you never will. If it's not "u r teh stooopid," it's the old "I know you are but what am I?" schtick like you pulled above.
Talking points? I'd be thrilled if you actually were able to parrot Obama's talking points instead of the inanity you spout. Debating? Puh-Leeeze. Before you can debate someone, you have to have a clear idea of the issues. And you simply haven't demonstrated that you do. All you've done is shake your pom-poms and chant "Sis-Boom-Bah!!! Rah-Rah-Rah!!!" You've never once "elaborated" upon why you think Obama's the best candidate.
In any event, you should show some gratitude, since I'm the only one here who's even responded to your childish antics. Otherwise, you've been roundly ignored. You're welcome.
And you're still ducking the challenge like Darth. I guess no one on skid row thinks you're a good enough credit risk.

Other than the fact that he's not been in close contact with the Rev for years, yes it does make him more like mainstream America. How many privileged politicos do you think actually know a street level lunatic. Or experience ANYTHING that the average American experiences on a daily basis. He's not nearly as far removed from it as any of the other choices we've been given.

And the Clintons are liars and murderers (how soon we forget Whitewater) and the other side gives as a psyche damaged POW warhawk already well past the the national average for life expectancy.
Let's see.... a lying murder, a deathbed madman, and a disgruntled black from my generation upset by the social ills of this country. Tough choice, not at all.

Years, huh? Dude, Obama and Wright hid out in the basement of the Illinois State House and prayed together right before Obama announced his candidacy. Wright was originally to deliver the invocation, but that invite was withdrawn because Obama knew that Wright was going to cause him trouble. (Sources: NY Times; Chicago Sun Times) So he hides the guy in the basement??? That, right there, clearly demonstrates that Obama was aware that his super-close relationship with Wright would be an albatross around his neck. Obama's about to learn, as Richard Nixon did before him, that it's not the deed that will kill you, but the cover-up.
To be honest, I can sort of understand Wrights "Why hast thou forsaken me" schtick at the National Press Club; if my protégé of twenty years decided to throw me under the bus, well, I'd be a little... ummm... "bitter," too.

Right. Because boarding school in Hawaii and the Ivy league are just the kind of things that define the average American.

And some good points they are. Suffice it to say, with a two party system (both of which are private organizations that set their own rules outside of any democratic process) we are screwed as American voters, being left with only the ability to chose the lesser of all evils.
Being a politician is supposed to be a public service, not a self enhancing career with the bill footed by taxpayers. I would sooner have Joe Blow, the struggling but successful small business owner, in charge of the country then any of the self-inflated talking heads that have been placed in front of us.

Indeed. I have no numbers to back this up, but I'd guess that less than 10% of the electorate truly votes "for" a candidate. The rest, as you said, vote for "the lesser of all evils."
Sometimes you'll see "Joe Blow the shopkeeper" run for City Council or some other local/state office. But the guys who run for President have almost without exception been running since they busted out of the womb.

I think a lot more people would be inclined to "waste" their vote if the third party candidates weren't wackos like Perot or douchebags like Nader. That seems to be the real stumbling block.

Compared to the douche bags the dems and repubs put up? Six in one hand and half a dozen in another. If you want decent third party candidates it needs to be a viable enough option for the non-crackpots to run.

I would have liked to have seen a self-financed, independent run by Mike Bloomberg. The fact that he's quit both major parties is telling. Yeah, he can go nanny-state at times, like with the smoking ban. But it would have been an acceptable trade-off knowing that he wouldn't have been beholden to most of the special interests the Ds and Rs have to court.
But he seems determined to go the "Carnegie Philanthropist" route. Can't say I blame him.

If Obama wins, Jim B/Raoul/Duff can never post on XPT again. The same applies to Gunker and Elab if McCain wins.
Fuck $100 dollars. Anyone with a half a working brain knows this place is more important to all three of you than $100. Put up or shut up.
