Well,the Conservative philosophy is for lower taxes and lower spending.
Reagan got Congress to lower taxes but Congress went apeshit on the spending front. Budget increases,courtesy of a Dem controlled Congress went stratospheric,and the increase in Defense spending accounted for a minority of that increase.

With Bush however,he got some tax cuts but didn't get any real spending cuts to go with. Made worse because Congress was controlled by the Republicans. Seriously,first time in decades you have the ability to get the conservative agenda through easy and the Republicans turned into Democrats on crack. Morons.

The Republicans got the beating they deserved in '06 and Bush deserves all the criticism he gets for it. His leadership skills(or lack of them)are a joke.

That being said,it took him Six years to cost his party control of Congress. Clinton accomplished that feat in Two. I guess Bubba McHilljack really was a better President.
