Sounds like someone spent his teenage weekends in air cadets to me. Lance, I have a very good idea of the kind of military we have, as well as the people in it.
My problem is not with the military itself, but the disgracefully inadequate funding and subsequent PR nightmare it recevies from our feds. Our troops have done a great job in the face of a beaurocracy which is more interested in supplying maternity fatigues than ammunition.
Sure the coffee is a morale booster, but it does little to negate the fact that our troops have been forced to wear green jungle camo in a desert war while we took half a year ordering desert fatigues from the States. Even though an army surplus retailer in Toronto was willing to fill and ship the order within a week.
Don't forget that many of our troops had to hitch a ride with US soldiers because we did not have enough airplanes to get them there.
The recruiting office I spoke of has long since closed down and is now a Tim Horton's. Go figure.
For the record 10 years service is slightly more than a weekend trip in the Air Cadets.
Our government has been pissing on our military for years no doubt, but they have still managed to do their jobs.
This pissing match is stupid, sure America was years late for both world wars, but that was the fault of their government, just as the current state of our military is the fault of ours.
As for all the other crap in this thread there are seriously rednecked-retarded comments on both sides. The White House 2 hundred fuckin years ago? Talk about colonies, upper and lower Canada, and 1812, Jesus Titty fucking Christ lets make a relevant point that doesn't require a history degree or a Delorean going 88 MPH.
Canada is in Afganistan because the US was attacked, done deal no questions asked. F-15s went tits up and Canadian F-18s took up the slack for Homeland defense. Article
Canada has always through the years been there in times of need. In fact the last time we spent as much on our military was when we were fighting the Nazis. Source
As for the Americans, they are still making the largest contributions monetarily and personnel wise in Afghanistan.
Along with the Brits, Canadians, and yes Dutch troops who are doing the majority of the fighting there.
Gotta give respect where it is due.
