Ammirato, 18, was driving the BMW M5 down the 1.5-milelong airstrip, which is inside Jumbolair Aviation Estates in Anthony. Burroughs said 120 mph was the minimum speed the car was traveling before the driver hit the brakes. He braked for two to three seconds and the car veered sideways. The car rotated clockwise as it left the end of the paved runway, overturned and went airborne. It sailed over an 85-foot dip toward trees 200 feet away. The car first struck a wire fence and tree, according to the report. The right side then struck a second tree, shearing the vehicle in two. Then the rear section struck a third tree. The driver and all four passengers were ejected, according to the report. You might be sad but dismiss this and say what the fuck is an 18 yr old doing driving an $80,000 high performance car and forget about it. That is, until you read where he posted on the M5Board asking for tips on how to shift gears at 140. It's strange.

In the links he admits he has no experience with a manual I believe. I bet he compression locked it shifting down and thats what caused it to turn under braking. It has no bad habits up to the speed limiter, which kicks in around 155 mph. Though an 18-years-old kid's bad habits are likely to kick in sooner... 2. The current M5 is much more powerful than the older ones. The speed limiter is easily bypassed and the car will do 200mph. 3. He wonders if the kid tried some stunt from one of the "Crazy Arab" YouTube videos. An M5 won't do that and at 140 mph a launch & spin is easy to see. 4. 1.5 miles of pavement may seem like a lot but it isn't at 140 mph. 5. The kid may have started at one end and gunned it to 120 mph before hitting the brakes, then realized there was a lot of pavement left. Start at the other end and hit the brakes at 140 mph ... and he's egged on to try it again. This time he gets to 150 mph, hits the brakes ... and nothing happens because the brakes are hot and he launches off the end of the runway. _________________________ "If they can't picture me with a knife, forcing them to strip in an alley, I don't want any part of it. damaged AC Cream Wannabe Registered: 04/14/06 Posts: 582	I just bought a used M coupe and with less than half the horses it's downright scary what this car will do, although it is entirely predictable as long as you aren't dumb enough to try braking in a corner at speed. The effects of doing that are absolutely fucking terrifying! (Imagine hitting 85-90 into a turn, realizing too late that you should have entered the corner slower and touching the brakes. Under steer ain't the word for it. The front passenger side dives very, very hard, the ass comes loose and the inside wall gets too close too fast). But the shame here is that an amazing car was wasted by a kid who had no concept of what he was doing.
