Jim, you should borrow a camera from Jeremy Steele and go tape the Giants victory parade then mail it to Belichek. I totally expected Manning to pee down his leg like a cocker spaniel hearing a doorbell during the fourth quarter. I still don't think it means you can't question the trade. I would take Rothlisberger over either Manning or Rivers and even Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won Super Bowls. The NFL has finally become just like all the other major sports, it's not the best team all year that wins championships, it's the hottest team when the playoffs start.

I might do that, if anyone could find him. He ran up the tunnel like a petulant child with two seconds left on the clock. Sort of a macro version of his head being up his ass. Mr. Sportsman-Like Conduct, indeed.
Edited to add: I was in the 1986 Mets ticker-tape parade, with my H.S. Marching band, which was the last actual ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes. By the Gulf War, everything had switched to digital, so folks just shredded shit and threw it out the window. I still have a bit of it somewhere...

I really like Rothlisberger, but he SUCKED in his Super Bowl. One of the few times a team won despite a QB. I had confidence in Eli having a chance today since he's really good in the no-huddle 2 minutes. He likely would have had more issues if he had the lead and had to milk the clock ... like the last time we played NE or at Green Bay where we didn't move the ball at the end of the 4th Q. Behind with no time, he thinks less. But, Tyree's AMAZING catch was CLUTCH!!!! And how did Eli get away from all those Patriots? I thought it was a sack FOR SURE.

This was very common tonight. ESPN said Brady was knocked to the ground 18 times tonight... not counting the sacks. That is nuts! The "Golden Boy" got abused. Congrats NY Giants!

Most New Yorkers are either Giants/Yankees or Jets/Mets. I have no idea why that is, but it's true. So, in that sense, it's not too far wrong.
The only person I can think of who was Yankees/Jets was this psycho chick I used to bang occasionally around the last time the Giants were in the Super Bowl. But she was from Minnesota, so maybe the corn did something to her brain.

Where do the Rangers and Islanders fit?
Don't forget about the Devils ....
I've noticed no such hockey tie-in. I know that Wilpon who owns the Mets had an interest in the Islanders, but it didn't impact fans. They go crazy at the Mets games when Rangers and/or the Devils are doing well in the playoffs ... more the Rangers than the Devils, but that's just the nature of the number of fans for each.
Quite a bit of fandom is based on location and age. For example, I grew up on LI but I took on the Rangers before the Islanders came along. The Islanders used to own LI hockey fans ... 4 cups in the 80s helped. But, now there is more of a mix there since the Islanders haven't competed recently.
NJ is divided a bit, too. Few established hockey fans shifted to the Devils when they moved here from Colorado [they were the Rockies]. But, fans who were young adopted the new team.
Since the Devils have been quite successful in the last 10-12 years, they have a very solid base in NJ, but they don't have anywhere near all the fans.
btw, one of the best stories of Game 7 of the 1986 World Series is told by Lawrence Taylor. The Giants were playing the Redskins in a tough Monday Night game and the fans would break into roars .... and there was nothing going on in the game. It took them some time to realize that the fans were listening to the Mets game while watching the football game and were reacting to the Mets comeback from 3-0 down. So keep in mind ... the tie-in Giants/Yankees Jets/Mets isn't that solid of a rule. While the tie-in is very common, there's quite a bit of crossover.

I like the Mets, Dolphins(afc) and Giants (nfc), Knicks , Islanders.
Hate the Yanks, Rangers and Jets although the hate has been wearing off as of late.
My assumption was that met fans gravitated to the Islanders and Yankees fans to the Rangers.

Yanks/Giants/Knicks here. Couldn't give a damn about hockey, but if I had to pick it would be Rangers I guess.
I always thought the Yanks/Giants and Mets/Jets thing was both a class and regional thing, in addition to having albeit less to do with a mutual stadium.
Yanks/Giants were a LITTLE more upscale and generally from Manhattan, Bronx, Staten island, Jersey, Westchester.
Jets/Mets out of the Dodger tradition of being a BIT more blue collar and Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island based.
Both my grandfathers were decidedly blue collar and split evenly Yanks/Giants (Manhattan born) and Mets(Dodgers)/Jets (outta Brooklyn.) The first one took me to the games, though, so I have been in that camp for decades. Too many decades.
Anyway, all this started to water down when Giants moved to Jersey.
That's my two cents.
I'll try to take some pics at the PARADE.
Fuck Bill Belichick and especially Rodney Harrison. And a perpetual FU to the Sox fans.

I couldn't have said it better. The original Mets fans were almost exclusively disaffected Dodger/Giant fans still hurting from their teams' respective moves to California in the Mid-50's. Yet another proud legacy of Robert Moses.
Throughout Queens and most of Brooklyn, you'll get funny looks (at the very least) if you say you're a Yankees fan. Obviously, the reverse is true in the Bronx. In Manhattan, as Charlie says, it depends on your neighborhood/circumstances. Out on Staten Island, it depends on when and from which other borough your family arrived, with the dividing line (as is usually the case) being the expressway: Yankees fans to the North, mets fans to the South.
People from Long Island and Westchester are usually too oblivious to notice...

Lest we forget... True American heroes mail in votes but war recedes as campaign issue The buff-colored envelopes marked BALLOT FOR MILITARY VOTERS arrive at the Board of Elections by regular mail from voters in Iraq who did not know they would still be alive on Super Tuesday. What they did and do know should be our city and nation's shame - the civilians who vote in safety back home Tuesday are more worried about the economy than the war that, at the most recent official count, has killed 3,797 of America's finest and wounded another 32,768. Tens of thousands more continue to risk violent death and maiming. But we at home are more worried about jobs and fuel costs and the stock market and the value of the dollar and real estate values. Sure, that poor kid lost his legs, but what about my mortgage rate? Hillary Clinton would not even have to bother lying about her vote for the war if she had not already lied back when Iraq was the big issue. A little downturn in the economy was all that was needed to change that, certainly here in New York despite having lost 173 of our best. California seems to have been a touch slower to forget the war, perhaps because it has lost 422, more than double any other state. Of the New Yorkers among the combat fatalities, 26 were too young to have voted in the last presidential primary and died before they had a chance to vote in this one. These included Le Ron Wilson of Queens, who was just 14 at the last Super Tuesday. He was only 18 when he was killed by an IED in July. He had volunteered for a particularly dangerous patrol, placing more at risk than could ever be measured by money. "He joined the Army because he felt he was being of service to humanity," said his father, Lawrence Wilson. "That was the kind of person he was." For this primary, the City of New York Board of Elections sent out 1,152 military absentee ballots in recent weeks and no doubt a sizable portion went to Iraq and Afghanistan. A fair number of these arrived back before Tuesday, which means these ballots have been sitting here while the soldiers who sent them were just an IED explosion or a sniper's bullet from never knowing if their candidate won. In an absolutely correct effort to ensure every living soldier will be able to vote despite the vagaries of military mail service, the Board of Elections extends the deadline for receipt of these absentee ballots to a week after the polls close. The board does not open any of the military ballots until that extended deadline. And, unless the primary comes down to just a few votes, all the military ballots become an afterthought. Even the soldiers who mail in their ballots long in advance are cheated of feeling that their vote really counted. That could end with a simple change of procedure - open the ballots in hand Tuesday. At the same time, election law in New York appears to hold that a person who files an absentee ballot must still be alive when the polls officially open for the vote to be legally valid. Which seems to mean a soldier can mail in his ballot only for the vote to become invalid if he or she happens to get killed before the polls open. (!)At the very least, we should amend the law so such a ballot becomes valid the moment the soldier signs the back of the sealed buff-colored envelope and marks the box affirming: "I am in the actual military service of the state of New York, or of the United States." Tuesday, Super Tuesday and the Super Bowl will brush past each other as the big Giants' parade goes up the Canyon of Heroes right past the Board of Elections' headquarters. As you cheer the Giants, save a thought for those true heroes who vote from afar in harm's way in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, as you step into the booth to cast your own vote in total safety, the shame is cravenly all yours if you put money worries ahead of the war from which our finest Americans send in those buff-colored envelopes, not knowing if they will live to learn who won. ---Michael Daly, New York Daily News, February 5, 2008

I had to wade through 576 pages of Fatman posts to find this thread, but Fox ran Super Bowl LXII for Easter, and I couldn't ask for anything better. Off. The. Fucking. Helmet. Doesn't lose a damn thing twelve years later. Happy Easter, Folks.
