It's twenty after four and no final word on a contract with Johann Santana. I'm starting to get very nervous.

I never fully understood the relation between "4:20" and that stuff in your back jean pocket. I think the term is more west coast than east coast and came into vogue well after my college days [and exposure to weed]. But, anyway ...


Some might relax me right now ...

MINNEAPOLIS -- The clock is no longer ticking, but there is no word yet.

The Mets and Johan Santana had until 4 p.m. CT today to work out a contract extension that would officially complete the trade of the two-time Cy Young Award winner from the Twins to New York in exchange for four prospects.

The Mets have announced that contract extension negotiations with Johan Santana have finished and the trade will be finalized pending player physicals.

Santana is expected to receive a six-year extension, from 2009 through 2014, for about $22 million a year. He will also get a signing bonus of roughly $7 million, which, added to his 2008 salary of $13.25 million, will push the total package over $150 million. SI.com first reported these details, which the source confirmed.

Glad that fucker is out of the AL, and will welcome watching highlights every fifth day of a new cadre of batters herniating themselves on that changeup.
