This nomination really means nothing to me. I can't see winning meaning anything. I have no idea what the criteria are to be nominated. I have no idea what they mean by "Community". I have no idea who the judges are. I have no idea what instructions they will be giving. I have no idea what agendas they harbor. And so on ...


What does it really mean if we win?

What does it really mean if we lose?

If a community is defined as a phony nice-nice land where whores cannot be critiqued harshly, where pictures relating to the very subject being discussed are banned from being posted [it's a fucking porn board, ADT!], etc., then I don't want to be a community.

If it's merely about amassing numbers - posters, posts, lurkers, celeb whores - who fucking needs it.

If it's about business best reaching the fans ... and making the producers a little extra $$$$, well that has it's place, but I don't care if I'm part of someone else's profit machine.

If a community is a shared collection of strong characters who feed off the intelligence, wit and vitality of the others so engaged, then sign me the fuck up!

We had a fine example of community this past week with the bans of Mind Ltd and MrSparkle.

Regardless of one's position on the bans, discussion was open and no one was punished for not towing the line. One could question the decisions of those who run the place without threats of dire discipline. The mechanics of the mods decisions could be revealed openly without creating a myriad of secretive factions.

This board isn't protected by the first amendment. It's Jeff's house. Phlog posted pic of Jeff that were real nasty and he's gone. But, it's about as good as one could ever expect.

I have no reason to go out of my way to bother Jeff, but I have occasionally been critical of him and yet I've never been "warned" or "threatened". And, I'm hardly alone in that.

I think if you look at the collection of characters that have been drawn together to post here, share space, ideas, perversions and insults, it's one hell of a community.



And, I don't need some trophy to tell me so.
