Not sure where you’re going with this but living snakes need to eat and if I am able to step in and eliminate needless suffering on the prey then I do. From your question I am not sure if you consider this a problem.

Many snakes will get bitten and die from injury in nature. While a snake is in my possession it is my responsibility to eliminate that risk.

I don’t know how I stand on human view of that. I know that I want a “do not resuscitate” order on me if I become that ill but I have no idea how others should feel, it’s their life.

Stray cats and dogs are not the natural food for snakes. What saddens me is that there are over 8 million dogs and cats a year euthanized because of human irresponsibility. That is the crime.
