Early morning classes in German when I was 11 (Completely free, no less!), about one year of French at middle school, plus a few weeks of Japanese and Urdu ('Salam Alekum' is all I can remember of that, unfortunately ) then six years of French, plus a cultural exchange program with a Japanese school based in the UK wherein I got to learn some basic Japanese as well as some Kendo, origami, tea drinking etiquette....and baseball.

Plus, my class' form room at secondary school was based in the languages department, so you pick up a lot of stuff off of posters without even knowing it. Watching a lot of Spanish and Italian football and lots of foreign films helps too (Subbed not dubbed, obviously), plus I like to travel and always make a point of picking up a little of the language before I go.
