How does that work?

Do they have syllables like in Japanese?

It seems to have a basic similarity.

Not as clearly defined as Japanese (as far as I am able to make out) i.e. wherein nearly every character can be reduced to an equivalent two letter English syllable 'Na' 'Ka' 'Wa' etc.

It is also (rather ironically, given Thailand's tranny-haven reputation) further complicated by being very gender specific. When you want to say 'I' as in 'I can understand', you use a completely different word for 'I' depending on your gender.

Thai for the contrast or for the tourism, or both?

Thai because I got it for cheap...but I'd definitely like to visit someday. Japan and Hong Kong would probably be my prefered first destinations in Asia, though.

I see.

There is tourism and then there is tourism bound to having "more bang for your buck", you know. That is what was meant initially.

Language-wise, what is it you got "for cheap"?
A textbook or an ROM-based interactive course?
Did anything work for you in the past, and, if so, what was it?

Thailand no safe place for straight man.It Brazil of Asia.
