my chinese-american roommate from long island (which she pronounced "lon- GY- land") also pronounced it "awnt"... the black kids i grew up with all said "awnt-ee". they also all said shit like "li-bary" instead of "library", and my personal favorite, "skin-did" for "skinned", as in "light skin-did" or "dark skin-did."
