I have a question. It's hypothetical, so I realize it wouldn't likely ever happen, but I'd like to get your take on it.

If you can prosecute an adult store for selling a title that someone thinks is obscene, why isn't the government prosecuting stores like Wal Mart for selling toys with lead in them? Outside of the obvious social acceptance differences, what's the legal difference?

It's obvious that one does much more harm than the other. Is this a perfect example of how we try to legislate morality and turn a blind eye to the real harmful things in our world?

"Wal-Mart Becomes Largest Corporate Political Investor

By Edward Alden and Neil Buckley

Published by The Financial Times, Feb 24, 2004

***

Wal-Mart, the largest company in the US, looks set to pass a new milestone this year: it is well on its way to becoming the biggest business contributor to the 2004 election campaign.

After years of little involvement in federal politics, the Arkansas-based retail giant is currently the largest corporate donor through its political action committee (PAC), having doled out nearly $1.3m to federal candidates until the end of January, according to Politicalmoneyline.com."
