I prefer clubs that let the girls choose their own music. A good dancer can move to anything the dj plays, but some of the newer girls can be awkward unless they're dancing to a familiar song they have practised at home.

In keeping with Burg's comment, I pay well, but never extravagantly. I've had friends around the strip business since I was 17 and I've never been under the impression that if I tip her enough I might get to go home with her. I also like to make note of the bouncers' tattoos so I know which motorcycle club my money is being funnelled to.
