Of some interest when viewing this: Katrina was a *minor* hurricane in New Orleans, with windspeeds just barely into hurricane classification, and only at some reporting stations. This was a big surprise when the Weather Service finally got to the instruments later: it wasn't a bad storm in New Orleans at all. Kinda suggests that living well below sea-level on the Gulf Coast isn't a brilliant idea.

(much different on the coast and in Mississippi & Alabama - very strong there)
