EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon can start seriously thinking about a national title run. As for Southern California, just winning the Pac-10 could be a long shot at this point.

Jonathan Stewart ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns and the fifth-ranked Ducks knocked off No. 9 USC 24-17 on Saturday.

Dennis Dixon completed 16 of 25 passes for 157 yards. He also ran for 76 yards and a touchdown for Oregon (7-1, 4-1). The Ducks, who came into the game ranked second nationally in total offense, had 399 yards against the Trojans.

USC's defense, ranked third in the nation, held up against the Ducks. But it was turnovers - including a fumble recovery and a pair of interceptions - that gave Oregon the advantage over the Trojans (6-2, 3-2).

USC, which came into the season ranked No. 1 and a heavy favorite to play for a national title, now will need help to defend the Pac-10 crown it has owned at least a share of for six straight seasons.

Mark Sanchez, making his third start for the Trojans in place of the injured John David Booty, completed 26 of 41 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns, but the misthrows hurt him.

Trailing 24-10 with 4:44 left in the game, Sanchez narrowed the gap with a 14-yard touchdown pass to David Ausberry.

Sanchez led the Trojans to the Oregon 33 on their final drive, but he was intercepted by Matthew Harper - who had also intercepted another key pass earlier in the quarter.

Fuck yeah they did!! Go Ducks!! Let me tell you, all of Eugene is tearing it up in celebration!!

"Dennis Dixon Played Despite ACL Tear

Dennis Dixon completely tore the ACL in his left knee in Oregon’s win over Arizona State on Nov. 3, and convinced Oregon’s coaches and doctors to let him try and play in the Arizona game last night. After leaving last night’s loss in the first quarter when the knee faltered again, Dixon will now have season-ending surgery, bringing his UO career to a close. That was the word on a conference call featuring UO coach Mike Bellotti and team physician Dr. Bob Crist this evening.

Dixon convinced the staff to keep the severity of his injury from the public and even his teammates. Doctors were encouraged by the lack of swelling in the knee after discovering the torn ACL in an MRI on Nov. 4, and Dixon was able to practice despite the injury. He was allowed to play last night with the understanding that he would be pulled from the game if he experienced further instability.

It takes a tremendous competitor to have the guts to even try and play through an injury like that. But to play so damn well? He had a 39 yard touchdown run on a torn ACL. My God.

I don’t really know what else to say… I just hope a man of his heart and ability can fully recover and find success at the next level (or, more likely, in baseball)."

I missed last weeks game when Dixon went down.. but Ill be chearing for the Ducks tomorrow.. I hope they have a chance w/o him, but the competition is not all that impressive... so we will see! GO DUCKS!!

This was a good game played by the Trojans. 44-24 was the final score. Booty had an excellent game. UCLA is next. Once they beat them, The Rose Bowl is ours.

I think they said 1st shut out in 27 years.. And yeah, we lost.. but considering we ended up with a 5th string QB, a freshman.. not to mention all the other guys who were down or went down from numerous injuries, too.. and add the fact that their spirit was waaaay down from all that.. they really didnt get their ass kicked.. they just lost in a shut out..
USC will slaughter UCLA next week.. and we beat USC.. so thats at least something! I do however, have to be nervous about the Civil War next week... the Ducks better practice their quacking tails off this week!
