I have no problems whatsoever killing every terrorist on the face of the planet. But going into Iraq before finishing the job in Afghanistan was a Huge strategic and tactical blunder.

However...

Having said that, since we're already there, let's get fucking serious and act as if we're actually trying to win the fucker. Because the alternative would be disasterous for decades to come, perhaps even a century.

The good news is the guy running the show, General Petreus, has for many years enjoyed the reputation of being "the smartest man in the Army." I think he has two PhDs.

Even better news: Reuters reports that violence in Iraq has dropped 70 % since the surge began. So something seems to be working. It just took the looters and shitbags in the administration a while to stop profiteering and focus on the problem.

I say give Petreus free reign and let him do as he sees fit. If "the smartest man in the Army" can't figure out how to solve this mess, then we probably are fucked and should pull out. But let's at least try to win first.
