My inability to see eye to eye with you may be simply because I'm female and you're male, but when I read the above, I want to Why? Because what you've said can be distilled down to this: I know that the women (and men) I'm spankin' it to are fucked up, but that doesn't interfere with my ability to type one-handed. I think dehumanization just comes much more easily to men than it does to women.
Excuse me? Dehumanization? I object to that. Like a lot of other people, when the rumor about Haley first surfaced, I had a sinking feeling and looked everywhere I could to hopefully find some proof that it wasn't true. I'll probably never spank to a Haley scene again, (not that I did much anyway, I've been uncomfortable with that since the Del Toro thing made her genuine vulnerability apparent.)
I just don't see how you make the connection between recognizing that sex work can be harmful and feeling some sort of personal responsibility as a viewer. I'd rather porn was just made by the the 3% of happy sex workers you talk about, it'd certainly be better quality, but there is nothing I can do to stop girls like Haley from doing this to themselves. If someone I knew and cared for was contemplating it, I'd do everything in my power to dissuade them.
Reading back, I think our disagreement comes down to your earlier statement that the notion of "free will" is complicated, which is the biggest load of horseshit I've ever seen you write. Free will is simple. As an adult, unless coerced, you are responsible for the choices you make. Admittedly, coercion can take many forms, but wanting more than the Wal-Mart lifestyle isn't one of them. Your point about extended childhoods is well taken, but the responsibility for that lies 100% with the parents that fail to equip their kids for adult life.

If I ever gave the impression that I was a strong, contented former hooker, either you weren't reading that carefully, or I am not immune to the denial that so common to sex workers across the board. Realistically, out of dozens, I know maybe three or four women who were cut out to be whores, and it suits them just fine. In terms of national or global percentages, I'd estimate that the happy hooker represents about 3% total. Of course, no active whore will admit that, because she needs to tell herself she likes the work in order to do it, and if she's a very public persona like a porn star, it's bad marketing to say that she's only in it for the money and she actually hates her work.
Well, consider this an apology for my apparent misreading of you. But now we've established that you weren't happy with your previous choices, answer me this: Disregarding any that mistreated you, do you feel your former customers should share the blame?
