We had a homicide case, back before the Court of Appeals struck down the Death Penalty. The law gave us 120 days after filing a Murder 1 indictment to determine whether we would seek the death penalty or life without parole. Obviously, the killer's background and upbringing would be a mitigating factor.
The investigation revealed that the killer's mother had him at age 12, and that he had his own kid at age 11, making her a grandmother at age 23.
I had to call my mom and tell he not to feel so bad for being a grandmother in her early 50s. She felt a LOT better after hearing that.
The killer's mom died at age 27 from AIDS. We declined to seek the Death Penalty.

The youngest ever medically confirmed mother was 5 years old at the time of her son's birth.
