Thundar was awesome. Maybe I'll do some of him next time if I can find 'em. I hated the Smurfs, though. Probably because they were my kid sister's favorite.

I just realized the Disney afternoon doesn't really count as Saturday morning cartoons. Oh well, finding these links made me reminisce the days of hanging out in the back room of my parents antique store, sitting through what felt like hours and hours of Perry Mason and Hawaii Five-o just to get to the damn toons. Most of these links are just intros, gotta love those early 90's tunes.
Gummi bears
Duck tales
Chip n' dale rescue rangers
Tale spin
Darkwing Duck
Gargoyles

mine don't either technically as they were actually reruns that a local DC station played every morning. i remember gathering at a house everyday with other kids in the summers and watching this stuff...it was hosted by a dude that was dressed like Spock...called himself "Captain 20 " and showed this stuff as well as Kroft superstar stuff. Kimba (who fuckin disney ripped off. Disney is the Devil)

Does anyone remember a late 80s/early 90s cartoon that started out with a real woman (as in not animated) sitting in her nice house talking to the kids about what todays episode is all about, and then when she was done the camera would zoom out her window into cartoon land where they'd play the beginning intro song with lots of animals dancing around? This is the very earliest cartoon I remember watching and thats all I remember of it. I've been wanting to figure out what it was for freakin' years now (my mom remembers about as much as I do) so if anyone knows what I'm talking about and could tell me youd seriously make my day.

Ceara: Did you often pretend you were "Polly Esther". The character profile seems to have influences you greatly.
May you find the perfect "Speedy"!!
Character Description:
Polly is extremely head-strong, and is often seen bullying her partners. She is strong and not very lady-like, but her super-sharp nails can provide a powerful blow to any opponent.
In battle, she plays her flute to get the bad guys to fall in love with her, and then she hurts them. Polly appears to be single for a long time, neither needing nor wanting a man, but in the later episodes her secret love for Speedy emerges.

Star Blazers was the shit. I knew the guy who did the voice of Capt. Avatar, Gordon Ramsey Sr. (I was friends with Gordon, Jr.) He was also Bozo the Clown. Got hit by lightning while mowing his lawn. Didn't kill him, though.

Kudos to "old school" Jonny Quest and Dangermouse!!
My absolute favorite were the "Fracture Fairy Tales" in the Bullwinkle cartoon hour. I can still enjoy them since they were written on so many levels.

I know plenty of cartoons like that. But remember Fraggle Rock? This came on Saturday morning for me on BBC3.
Nah thats not it. It was an animated cartoon all except for the very beginning with the lady talking, which was very Mr. Roger's style.. I think it might have been made for really little kids, like below 6. But I'm not sure.

Johnny Quest and Dangermouse kicked ass, too. I used to get very stoned as a teenager and watch the latter.

No! It wasnt a freakin' puppet show! but thanks for that anyway. I used to love lamb chop. The best part was how they ended every episode with a lesson in how to test your parent's urge not to beat you:

The elephant show
My mom swears up and down that this was my favorite show ever. It ended in 1988 so I couldnt have been older than 2. I always thought she was talking about some animated version of Barbar the elephant or something. Only just recently looked it up on youtube and realized I remember absolutely nothing of the actual show, just that I had the entire intro song completely memorized with all the hand motions and would often sing it to people in an adorable fasion. (awww)

Mmmmm, not quite.
I did go through This List of animated TV shows looking for your mystery show. Nothing really fits the time-frame given. The closest is a show where young MacCauley Culkin has a live action intro, from the early '90s.
It's possible, if not probable, that the show you watched was older than 89-91 and just in re-runs.
Anyway, take a look & see if anything jogs your memory.

Who wants a house full of mice anyway?

The thing I never understood about Saturday morning cartoons...why they even came on before 10 AM...before I even discovered the power of a hangover I was never up before that dreaded time. And the most epic cartoon ever that came on upon 10:30 AM; for certain it was X-MEN on FOX KIDS: Eat Plasma, Niggaz!

When I was a kid I used to get up real real early on the weekends to catch all the toons. On Sundays the first thing on WOR in NY was "Davey & Goliath". Every Jewish kid I knew in my school used to watch this toon.

They had Wonderama down in Baltimore, Elab? I always thought it was a NYC-area ting. Or was it syndicated on the old Metromedia "network?"

When criminals in this world appear, And break the laws that they should fear, And frighten all who see or hear, The cry goes up both far and near for Underdog, Underdog, Underdog, Underdog.
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder, Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog, Underdog.
When in this world the headlines read Of those who's hearts are filled with greed And rob and steal from those in need. To right this wrong with blinding speed goes Underdog, Underdog, Underdog, Underdog.
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder, Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog, Underdog.

Also thought Johnny Quest was the bomb! [The original not the piss-poor remake.] High end animation for it's day and intelligent, action filled plot lines that inspired thought and imagination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xV_-u9sxYZMOf Course: Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, and Looney Toons et al. just for the mindless slapstick and the talent genius of Mel Blanc.

Hey Serg! If the previews are any indication, Speed Racer is going to be great. The Wachowski Brothers have done an amazing cross-over of the animation look from the original cartoon to a live action movie. http://speedracerthemovie.warnerbros.com/cmp/main.html
