Porn reviews, though rare, existed. They likely were hard for you to find in your fascist city. "Hustler" magazine had many such reviews. They used various stages of erection to rate the movie.

I recall "The Opening of Misty Beethoven" got a "fully erect" - the highest rating since they didn't have an ejaculating penis. Since I was way under age at the time, I didn't get to see the film until years later on VHS.
