CAD > USD

Our Loonie has been trading at a premium to the greenback all day. We expect to be in a surplus situation to the the USD at close today for the first time in 30 years.

Oh yeah, and we usually balance our budgets, and taxes are actually LOWER than in California and NY too.

Don't even get me started about universal health care ...

Enjoy your weekends my American friends.

You have to fight land speculators, not bears.

[Reagan]I'd compare the Republican spending to a bunch of Drunken Sailors... but that wouldn't be fair to the sailors. [/Reagan]

It also helps to note that Congress writes the budget, not the White House. While any administration has a fair amount of influence, through his partys' Reps and Sens,he doesn't actually control the budget process.

In other words,Clinton didn't balance the budget. Congress(controlled by Reps)did...then they started acting like Democrats.

Bye Bye surpluses.

Actually under Clinton that was not the case.

BOTH parties worked together to cut the deficit under Clinton NOT ONE. It took some hard compromises. The House held the country hostage when Clinton refused to submit to their tax-cut and other demands. The Senate, which was also Republican, was the difference. But, it took moderates of both parties to make it so.

Clinton made balancing the budget a priority in the 1994 campaign. It was one of the reasons I signed on to try to be a Clinton Delegate from NJ [didn't get it - thrown in the "friend zone" of politics]

Throughout his run he did a very good job in selling his priorities to the country. Since he set the agenda to challenge members of both parties to cut the deficit, each tried to top the other in an attempt to take credit.

The President sets the agenda. He makes the State of the Union. He sends the initial budget to Congress. They need 67% to override his veto. The Congress responds.

Since Clinton made it his priority and fulfilled it. He threatened and then vetoed bills that did not follow his vision. I give Clinton the lion's share of the credit.

The BLAME for the recent fiasco seems to lie with only one party since they ruled both houses of Congress and had the worst president since Harding ... maybe since Buchanan ... in the White House.

And exactly how much of that cash we spent went to Haliburton and Exxon's pockets?

Turn thy wrath O Lord upon the Bush-ites! They have devoured our resources and laid waste our freedoms!!
