Handful is right - their could be many definitions of a "guitar god", but for players (I used to play, but not much these days), it has to do at least as much with who inspired us to learn new things and stretch our musical ears and minds.
Jimi Hendrix hasn't even been mentioned, but obviously he's got to be in almost any pantheon of guitar gods/heroes. Hearing Hendrix play Red House for the first time was revelatory for me.
