You can use one of the many privately run postal centers where you can choose between USPS, and the private courier services as well. You will usually get good service, you can buy the right shipping supplies, make photocopies, there are shorter waiting lines and you can compare prices with other shippers right there. Usually USPS is significantly cheaper than any of the courier services... but not always. It's good that USPS is there, but you really don't have to go to any of their branches to take advantage of their services.

I dread going to the post office because of the waiting lines. I am not racist, but I have also noticed that it's mostly black people who seem to work at the post offices in LA. I don't envy them. I actually worked at a post office as a temp and lasted only a couple of weeks because it was mind-numbing and I couldn't deal with getting up at 4:30am.

There are novels about postal workers, and Charles Buchowski worked at post offices on and off.

Once again, I'd rather talk for hours about something lame like post offices than doing my homework...
