Hello
My name is Frank and I'm a Ph.D. candidate in Communications. I've decided to base my doctoral thesis on the inner workings of the adult entertainment industry.
I wish you the best of luck but saying you're going to write just on the adult industry is like saying you're writing a paper on government...its just so general.
What type of Communication course is this for? Do you want to focus on the business aspect, the legal (First Amendment/Obscenity issues), the cultural impact, the history of porn (or taking a static approach)...which?
What aspect do you want to focus on? Sex toys and stores that sell them? The brick and mortar porn shops? Strip clubs that still have a solid mob presence? The internet companies where there's a larger focus on younger entrepeneurs?
I'd suggest looking through AVN.com, XBiz.com, YNot.com (for the internet/webmaster aspect), Luke Ford's site at lukeisback.com and get an idea with what you want to focus on. XXXPornTalk might be a good source for some approaches, but not really for others.
