I don't think DanG said ANYWHERE that the users of the Mr. Marcus forum are costing anyone "millions of dollars". He basically said that piracy as a whole (which costs millions in sales) is accepted there, and whatever spook runs the forum, allows it - as I interpreted it.

No, I am explicitly saying that there is one thread on the Mr. Marcus forum which by itself will have deprived the industry out of at least a couple million bucks.

A quick check of the first 12 pages of that forum at 9.20 am GMT shows the following threads, all dedicated to pirating scenes and/or full movies:

B5fan 3,876,019
Doga 805,997
Jennifer Bush 654,318
ataxx 116,432
Classic 1,219,761
Buttman 270,405
Alcaponi 102,103
misanthrope 802,366
LWCBBMD 211,984
exploited moms 209,321

There are a ton of others that are under the 100,000 views, but most of them have at least 40,000 views.

Just totting up the ones listed above gives us a total of 8,248,706 views. Bearing in mind that most views will result in a download, the worst case scenario is that each download constitutes a lost DVD sale or VOD sale.

If we attribute a nominal loss value of just one dollar to each page view (when in reality it is probably much larger), these ten threads account for just over $8 million dollars in lost revenue/sales in one particular niche.

Now, even if you halve the nominal value 3 times until you get down to each page view representing just 12 and a bit cents, it's still going to be over a million bucks gone bye-bye. That's a hefty chunk of change in anyone's language. And that's from just one forum, and there are plenty of other threads and posts I didn't bother to count.

The reality is that those page views and subsequent downloads are actually a damn sight more costly than a buck. But don't tell tritone that...

Oh, by the way, I believe the 'spook' running the Mr. Marcus forum is actually a white guy.
