Racism is everywhere. The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act are only fairly recent accomplishments; historically speaking, it just happened yesterday.

On the upside, the US has a black (or mixed race?) candidate running for president. I don't think you will see that happen anytime soon in Europe.
