Years ago, I had one of those telemarketer jobs where you call people up and persuade them to give money to some charitable cause. The company I worked for took 30% off the top. We collected mostly for police associations. We weren't allowed to say anything that suggested that we were policemen, but enventually I realized that everyone thought we were policemen. In terms of moral depravity, it was worse than porn, but not as bad as getting school girls hooked on heroin and then pimping them. Back to the topic at hand...does anyone else see the transparency of Shelley Lubben's MO here? It first struck me in the Sierra Sinn vids when she said 'She needs our help. We need to help her' whilst pointing at the camera, and was further compounded by the request for Wal-Mart cards for Jersey.
1) Get girl to leave porn
2) Set up financial crutch for now-jobless girl
3) Become middleman between donors and girl

My guess; when she got into porn, she still a little girl doing whatever the grownups suggested. Recognizing that she didn't belong in porn and making the decision to get out may be the first step towards learning to think and act for herself. It's a hell of a way to learn, but you've got to start sometime.

I worry that relying on charity is the survival skill Shelley Lubben is teaching girls trying to leave porn. It's not just that quitting the easy money of the sex industry is hard; it's quitting any job when you're not skilled at much else.
Walmart gift cards don't even skim the surface of easing the transition. If Shelley really wanted to help, she'd teach them how to write a resume, job interview skills, time management, organization, etc. Sounds simple, but remember these are young girls who have to start from where they left off which probably was a minimum wage job. These skills got rusty from spending a few years in porn. They've lost a sense of structure. Porn is a lot more forgiving than a real job if you're late or unprepared. A real leader would address this and coach these girls accordingly. Lubben just comes across as self-serving.
Personally, I think Jersey moving back home to Florida is perfect. Starting over means she'll be at a lower income (and that's ok). The more affordable cost of living there compared to l.a. is crucial to her survival. I hope it all works out for her or anyone rebuilding their life.
A solid plan and life skills are forever. Donations are a short-term solution. If only Lubben would see the light.

True, Christian. Good point. Jersey is from Florida and I imagine most of these girls move back to where they're from. Hopefully, there's some family member they get along with or friends.

Does God want you to take his message to fags, or only to cute girls?
Periodically you read about an ex-porn whore who lost their job when their past was discovered. In some cases they've ended up back in porn. Recently a woman lost her job as a science teacher, which was supporting her and helping to support her two children. Are any Christians taking the gospel of forgiveness and redemption to the people who want to deny jobs to ex-performers? Are any Christians standing up for people who turned their lives around, struggled to earn their way through college, and who are now being denied the opportunity to do productive work and support their families? Or is the Christian response "Once a porn whore, always a porn whore"?
