The chairman of the Clark County Republican Party — who last month was elected president of the Young Republican National Federation — has resigned both posts, apparently in the wake of a criminal investigation. On Tuesday afternoon, Glenn Murphy Jr. e-mailed media outlets a letter announcing his resignation from both positions, citing an unexpected business opportunity that would prohibit him from holding a partisan political office. However, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department on Friday began investigating Murphy for alleged criminal deviate conduct — potentially a class B felony — after speaking with a 22-year-old man who claimed that on July 31, Murphy performed an unwanted sex act on him while the man slept in a relative’s Jeffersonville home.Murphy, a 33-year-old Utica resident, has not been arrested nor has he been charged with a crime. A copy of the police report has been posted on an politically focused Internet site and another was provided to a reporter with The Evening News and The Tribune on Tuesday evening. Larry Wilder, Murphy’s attorney, said Murphy is cooperating with police and Prosecutor Steve Stewart. Wilder said Murphy contends the sex act was consensual. A reporter was unable to reach Stewart on Tuesday evening. In 1998, a 21-year-old male filed a similar report with Clarksville police claiming Murphy attempted to perform a sex act on him while he was sleeping. Charges were never filed in that case. In the letter he e-mailed to a reporter on Tuesday, Murphy says that on Friday he learned that he had been awarded a contract he had bid on more than a year ago, and that one of the stipulations of the deal is that Murphy could not hold a partisan political office. In the letter, Murphy wrote: “My company (Utica-based December Media) bid on a very large project more than a year ago. It was a job that I thought I would never get in a million years — one that could transform my company and do in one year what I could ordinarily do in five. Well, I got the job Friday “... It was perfect timing for the county chairmanship that I was transitioning out of anyway, but terrible timing for my volunteer Young Republican position that I had just worked so hard to achieve. “My family sat down with me Saturday evening to look at things from every angle. We determined that if I didn’t take the job, there could potentially never be that type of opportunity again and I would be shorting the security of my future and the future of my family. I prayed with my family, and we determined that I have to take this opportunity for my long-term security.†Murphy spoke with a reporter via telephone only briefly after sending the e-mail. The conversation occurred before The Evening News and The Tribune obtained copies of the police reports from last week and 1998. During the conversation, Murphy seemed optimistic about the business opportunity and said he believes his resignation will have little negative impact on local Republicans, because he has been planning on leaving the county post since being elected president of the Young Republican National Federation last month. Clark County Republican Vice Chairwoman Connie Sellers will serve as the party’s interim chair until a caucus takes place in about two weeks, Murphy’s letter indicates. Jessica Colon, of Texas, will replace Murphy with the National Young Republican Federation. Murphy was elected to the national post last month during a convention in Miami. Sellers said Tuesday she is still working with state GOP leaders to coordinate the caucus and that no time, date or place have been set. Murphy has served as a local GOP officer for 10 years, including seven as chairman. sourcejesus what a party of perverts!!!

Its always amusing to hear liberals constantly advocating the qualities of the gay lifestyle and libertine values, until it serves them politically to criticize people for being gay.

Hey now, you haven't forgotten about 1/9 of our Supreme Court, have you?
it is so easy to foget about his existence since he doesnt do anything!
Clarence Thomas hasn't spoken from the bench since February 2006 McClatchy Newspapers analyzed the transcripts of oral arguments at the Supreme Court to see how many words each of the nine justices used during hearings this year.
They found that Stephen Breyer said 34,937 words, while Antonin Scalia said 30,087. Together, these two jurists accounted for 42% of the high court's verbiage, according to our calculations.
Meanwhile, Clarence Thomas stayed mum. He hasn't spoken from the bench since February 22, 2006, according to McClatchy. The newspaper group says Thomas has uttered just 281 words during 218 hours of oral arguments since October 2004.
With a $200,000 annual salary, that's about $1,800 a word.

So, gay republicans make elaborator's dick hard? That's pretty gay in itself. Apparently elaborator is a homo in denial otherwise known as a progressive.

Many supreme court judges have historically not spoken from the bench. John Harlan the elder and John Harlan the younger as well as Harlan Fiske Stone for example who thought it was improper. Thomas and the rest of the justices speak in written opinions of which Thomas has written many. That said, its essentially like Scalia's gets two votes. They vote the same 91% of the time.

Come on Moxie, you can make a better argument than this.
It's more than just the hypocrisy (although that's a big part of it too). The GOP has a base of support amongst the social elite (ie "Old Money") but that won't give them a majority.
Their post-1984 strategy has been to co-opt idiot working class families through fear-mongering that homosexual flag burners will rape their children, force them to have abortions and take their guns away. To their credit, the stratgey has been wildly successful.
In order to implement the strategy, the GOP needed the assistance of the religious right, because middle-American families strongly identify through their church organizations. Abortion has been the major lever in getting the religious groups on side, demonizing homosexuality is the other.
The fact that every week a different Republican law maker is found out to be a closeted homosexual, or worse, a child predator, pulls back the curtain on the whole tissue of lies that they claim as their moral high ground.
The point is not that Democrats can't also be gay, it's that Democrats don't make promotion of an anti-gay agenda a litmus test for party loyalty.
I would expect to find some 'closeted' Jews on the roster of an elite country club in the 1930s, I would be stunned to find them in the Gestapo.

Not really. As much as I hate liberals, I can barely tolerate holy rollers.

The succes of republicans has as much to do with liberal stupidity as anything the republicans have done. If you lost 11 presedential elections running northern liberals and won the only time you ran southern moderates, might you perhaps try a southern moderate? Nah, lets run a NY Senator again, 11's the charm.

Democrats could take more credibility if they disciplined their own. Remember Gerry Studs, child molestor thrown out of congress. They ended up naming a national park after him.
My concern is this is more gotcha politics. If you have better ideas then they should rise to the top and these gotcha games shouldn't matter. I have some hope that the moderate center of the democratic party will bitch slap the liberals into obscurity where they belong. Remember, the democrats won last congressional election, but only because they ran moderate to conservative candidates like Webb and Heath Schuler.

2001-2006 will be known as "the Golden Age of the Republican Party" because they controlled all three branches of the American politic and achieved so many great things that strengthened America and ensured that it's people were united and well-cared for, respected by other nations, ramped up manufacturing capacity and maintained infrastructure, all the while, improving the working wages of its populace, putting forth the virtues described by the Bill of Rights, thus, leading by EXAMPLE as opposed to contrived, conflated, politically- and corporate-driven military actions to "spread democracy" in other countries who, although, weren't READY for it, were quite easy to bomb.

I'm no fan of bush but the insane bantering such as the above post comes off as silly and damn near stupid to me. The sky isn't falling! Problems that historically and internationally compared are TINY are blown up to immense proportions and then you go on and on about how terrible life is under Bush. Had Clinton been in charge the past 7 years we'd all be talking about which brand of saxophone to buy right now. Most people see what they want to see. The above poster is certainly one of them.
