Man charged with assault, felony DUI

A Beaufort County man is charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend, driving off with his two children while drunk and killing a woman on a motorcycle, authorities said.

Rodney Galimore, 38, of Bluffton is charged with felony drunken driving, assault, two counts of child endangerment, driving under suspension, operating uninsured and violating liquor laws.

Galimore pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend at a children's birthday party Saturday evening and hit her in the face with it several times before leaving. She had broken up with him earlier in the day, according to a police report released Monday.

He hit Merry Deon of Ridgeland, who was driving her motorcycle, with a GMC Blazer. Deon, 42, who was driving from work to a friend's home in Savannah, Ga., died at the scene, the report said.
